R de Rieussec 2024: The Elegance of a Dry White from Sauternes

Crafted in the heart of the prestigious Château Rieussec estate, this dry white wine showcases the finesse of the left bank terroirs of the Garonne. Born from a harmonious blend of Sauvignon Blanc (65%) and Sémillon (35%), it brilliantly expresses the potential of the gravelly sandy-clay and limestone soils of the Sauternes appellation.

The 2024 vintage is distinguished by early harvesting and masterful vinification combining tradition and modernity: low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks for Sauvignon, aging on lees in oak barrels for Sémillon.

Nose: Luminous and refined bouquet blending fresh citrus notes, white-fleshed fruits, and delicate floral nuances.

Color: Pale yellow with brilliant highlights.

Palate: Round and pure attack, supported by subtle oak. The wine's natural vivacity provides elegant tension, while the finish reveals a noble slight bitterness and persistent saline minerality.

Hand-harvested in small crates, the grapes are chilled to limit oxidation before gentle pressing to preserve aromatic freshness. Following cold settling, part of the Sémillon must is fermented in new and one-year-old barrels, while the Sauvignon must is fermented mainly in stainless steel tanks, as well as in one-year-old barrels. The barrel-fermented wine is then aged on its lees for six months with regular bâtonnage. Once ageing is complete, the wines matured in stainless steel (50%) and in barrels (50%) are blended together.
