Carmes de Rieussec 2020: Sauternes Elegance with Refreshing Character

The second wine of the prestigious Château Rieussec, this 2020 Sauternes comes from a rigorous selection of parcels surrounding the château, on exceptional gravelly-sandy-clay soils at the junction of Fargues and Sauternes.

The 2020 vintage, marked by contrasting weather and extended maturation until late October, yielded remarkable Sémillon grapes that form the heart of this blend (82% Sémillon, 16% Sauvignon Blanc, 2% Muscadelle).

Aged 12 months in barrels with regular lees stirring, this sweet wine reveals all the finesse of the appellation.

Nose: Delicate aromas of rhubarb, white peach, and white flowers offer a refined, spring-like aromatic expression.

Color: Luminous gold with brilliant highlights.

Palate: A fresh, indulgent attack reveals notes of rhubarb, while the smooth finish is distinguished by buttery, subtly musky nuances.

After harvest, the grapes are pressed and vinified plot by plot. Following settling, the musts are barreled separately for fermentation. The wines are regularly stirred on their lees (bâtonnage) until mid-December, before racking and blending. Ageing continues in barrels for approximately 12 months.
