Carmes de Rieussec 2011: Sauternes Elegance as a Second Wine
The second wine of the prestigious Château Rieussec, Carmes de Rieussec takes its name from the Carmelite monks of Langon, who owned the estate in the 18th century. Crafted with the same exacting standards as the grand vin, it stands out for its aromatic breadth and expressive profile dominated by citrus notes.
The 2011 vintage, shaped by contrasting climatic conditions, benefited from optimal botrytis development late in the season and a magnificent Indian summer. Seven successive harvest passes extending until November 2nd allowed for the selection of grapes at perfect maturity.
Aged 18 months in barrels, this blend of Sémillon (84%), Sauvignon Blanc (12%), and Muscadelle (4%) reveals the full finesse of the Sauternes terroir.
Nose: Delicate floral expression reminiscent of acacia, accompanied by notes of fresh pear and candied apricot.
Palate: Generous, round attack evolving toward an elegant mineral structure, extended by a persistent finish with expressive fruity accents.
