Château Rieussec 2020: Sauternes Excellence Revealed
Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation on the left bank of the Garonne, Château Rieussec extends over 85 hectares of sandy-clay gravel soils at the junction of Fargues and Sauternes. The influence of the Ciron river creates perfect conditions for noble rot development.
The 2020 vintage is characterized by an exceptionally mild winter followed by a rainy spring, then a summer marked by 55 days of drought. Late manual harvesting, completed on October 21st, yielded remarkable Sémillon grapes.
Vinified in barrels with 18 months aging, this blend of 92% Sémillon and 8% Sauvignon Blanc reveals the full complexity of the terroir.
Nose: Expressive and fresh, dominated by quince jelly, mandarin zest and everlasting flowers, enhanced by delicate woody touches.
Color: Brilliant gold with amber reflections.
Palate: A lively attack of candied citrus gives way to an ample texture reminiscent of rhubarb tart. Minerality reveals itself through peaty aromas, while the harmonious finish develops subtly roasted hazelnut butter notes.
