Château Rieussec 2023: Sauternes Excellence

Nestled in the heart of the Sauternes appellation on the left bank of the Garonne, Château Rieussec spans 85 hectares of sandy-clay gravels at the junction of Fargues and Sauternes. The natural humidity from the Ciron River creates ideal conditions for noble rot development.

The 2023 vintage proves exceptional despite contrasting climatic conditions. Manual harvesting and parcel-by-parcel vinification in barrels give this wine rare quality.

Blend: 89% Sémillon, 11% Sauvignon Blanc

Nose: Complex bouquet revealing aromas of apricot, candied citrus zest, and fresh pineapple, enhanced by floral notes of chamomile and acacia.

Color: Luminous gold with amber reflections.

Palate: Remarkable balance between unctuous texture and aromatic freshness, with a brilliant finish featuring blood orange peel notes and an intense, lingering minty touch.

The grapes for Château Rieussec 2023 are hand-harvested in small crates and pressed immediately in pneumatic presses. After settling, the musts ferment plot by plot in oak barrels, new barriques for the Sémillon and one-year-old barrels for the Sauvignon Blanc. The wine is aged on its lees with regular bâtonnage until mid-December, then blended and returned to barrel for around 18 months of ageing.

Château Rieussec 2023 pairs beautifully with pan-seared foie gras, exotic fruit desserts and creamy blue cheese. It also complements apricot tart and spiced Asian dishes.
