Château Rieussec 2022: The Rediscovered Excellence of a Great Sauternes

The 2022 vintage of Château Rieussec embodies the revival of an authentic noble rot Sauternes. Despite a challenging start with spring frosts and summer drought, this dessert wine reveals exceptional botrytis purity.

Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation at the confluence of Fargues, the estate spans 85 hectares of sandy-clay gravel soils. Natural humidity from the Ciron River creates ideal conditions for noble rot development.

Nose: Intense bouquet of candied apricots and dried fruits, enhanced by floral notes of acacia and honeysuckle.

Color: Luminous gold with amber highlights.

Palate: Remarkable balance between richness and freshness, revealing exotic fruit aromas and sweet spices, extended by a delicate and persistent bitterness.

Hand-harvested in small crates. The grapes are pressed, and after settling, transferred to barrels for fermentation, new barriques for the Sémillon and one-year-old barrels for the Sauvignon Blanc. Both pressing and winemaking are carried out plot by plot. After fermentation, the wines rest on their lees until mid-December, with regular bâtonnage. Following racking and blending, the wine returns to barrel for around 18 months of ageing.
